Banjo Camp

Sonny Osborne Banjo Camp: October 19 - 21, 2012 Registration begins January 2, 2012
A personal note from Bill Evans…

Hello Banjo Camp fans,

It’s hard to believe that in October 2012, we’ll be celebrating our 12th annual NashCamp Sonny Osborne Banjo Camp! Over the years, Cindy, Sonny and I have tried to create the best bluegrass banjo camp in the world and we’re going all out this year to make a great event even better. As always, we welcome bluegrass banjo players of all ability levels - from “high” beginners to advanced students and this year we’ll be offering class options geared for a wide variety of banjo styles, from traditional to progressive.

What’s on tap for this year’s camp? We’ve got the best group of teachers perhaps ever assembled for ANY banjo camp EVER, period. The amazing Tony Trischka joins us once again. But that’s not all - banjo legend Jim Mills, and, as always, Sonny Osborne, Ned Luberecki and me. Legendary builder Frank Neat joins us again this year to lend his banjo construction and set up expertise.

The original vision for our camp was to create an event where the absolute best players and teachers are able to interact closely with banjo students in smaller classes and in a more intimate context than is possible at other gatherings. We also guarantee that you’ll have an incredible amount of fun sharing your love of the banjo with others from all around the country who are exactly like you. With more teachers on staff this year than ever before, we’ll have more classes (with a greater variety of topics), more jamming options, and more chances to interact one-on-one with our incredible staff than ever before. We limit attendance to around 60 students, who are of all ages and travel from all around the United States to come together in the Nashville area at the height of the fall foliage season.

Don’t talk yourself out of a life changing banjo experience because you feel that “you’re not good enough.” You’ll find that our students are just like you - crazy about the banjo and anxious to learn and play with others.

Camp begins at noon on Friday and ends around 3 p.m. on Sunday. Days are filled with small group workshops, where students are placed in one of four groups based on ability level, large group sessions featuring our entire staff and elective classes where you pick the topics that most interest you. Friday night features slow, medium and up to speed jam sessions where we promise to leave no student behind! You’ll be joined in your jam by some of Nashville best musicians, who are there to help you gain more confidence playing with others. Saturday night features a one-of-a-kind intimate faculty concert you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

Have you heard that the Mad Platter, a well-known Nashville restaurant, is back at NashCamp? They provide the best food found at any banjo camp in the world. Forget your diet this weekend and enjoy incredible salads, main entrees and desserts that’ll provide enough energy to pick all night in our jams!

I’ve saved the best for last. As I look back over the last eleven years of banjo camps, I think the key to our success (besides Sonny and Cindy, of course!) has been our fantastic students. Simply stated, we have the friendliest, most welcoming (and, in some cases, most outrageous) group of students of any camp that I’ve ever been a part of. You’ll leave the NashCamp Banjo Camp with new friends, along with enough new ideas to keep practicing all the way through the winter into the spring.

Come join us and discover the best bluegrass banjo weekend experience in the world! We’re saving a seat for you.

All the best,

Bill Evans
