Jim
Hurst
Guitar
Instructor
Bluegrass Week 1
Jim, two-time recipient of IBMA's Guitar Player of the Year award, is
NashCamp's Guitar instructor for Week 1.
He brings a well rounded knowledge of musical
structure and vocal stylings from several music genres to teach 'how
to' and 'what if' aspects of guitar playing and their relationships to
Bluegrass.
With his rich, warm vocals, Jim sings and plays everything
from blues to bluegrass with equal finesse. He has toured and/or recorded
with Trisha Yearwood, Claire Lynch, Sara Evans, Holly Dunn, and John
Cowan. With 28 years in the business as a sideman, Jim is becoming known
as an artist in his own right, bringing musical maturity and sensitivity
along with a high level of creativity to his sound.
In 1998 Jim released his debut solo album, Open Window, then came two
recordings with musical partner Missy Raines "Two" released
in 2000 and "Synergy" released in 2003. His second solo recording, "Second
Son" released in 2002, had critical acclaim and success on the Bluegrass
charts for several months including the single "Steven's Deep Coal
Mines" which was on the BG charts for 7 months.
Jim's newest recording, "A Box of Chocolates" further reveals
his varied influences and styles. Featured as "Artist of the Month" for
World Wide Bluegrass (www.worldwidebluegrass.com)
for the month of April.
Jim is currently a member of The Claire Lynch Band, and is also performing
solo around the country and abroad.
Bluegrass Unlimited CD review excerpt: "...an
album that combines eight songs played in a group setting alongside
seven solo songs featuring Hurst's vocals and guitar wizardry."
