Ron Stewart

Bluegrass Fiddle, Week 2

Multi-instrumentalist Ron Stewart could teach several of the instrument classes - his solo CD "Time Stands Still" shows polish, innovation, and his drive on fiddle as well as on banjo and lead and rhythm guitar.

Fortunately for those who sign up for this class, fiddle is what he is perhaps most recognized for - recognized in the reviews of his solo CD debut, recognized by bluegrass greats whose stage performances and studio recordings benefited from Ron's bow, and recognized by bluegrass fans.

He's currently fiddling with J.D. Crowe and the New South and has performed and recorded with The Lynn Morris Band.

Ron grew up playing with his family band in Paoli, Indiana, and had already been invited to play fiddle on a live album with his legendary hero, Lester Flatt, by the time he was nine years old. His gutsy and soulful fiddle playing has earned him the Indiana State Fiddle Championship twice, and the IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year in 2000, as well. He makes his home in rural Paoli, Indiana and maintains a blistering schedule as a recording session player.

His solo CD on Rounder, "Time Stands Still", features Ron’s earthy vocals and fiery instrumental drive on banjo, fiddle, and guitar (as well as mandolin and bass on one of his original cuts, Riding the Saranac).
